| Enabling the Highest End-to-End Video Performance |
 For video broadcasting, collaboration and content contribution between two or more locations across the continent or the globe, latency, packet loss, jitter and resolution are primary concerns when choosing a solution. ZiXi is an unprecedented solution that allows broadcasters, content contributors, news gatherers, and video distribution companies to deliver broadcast-quality HDTV globally over the "cloud" (the public Internet, and private IP networks), less expensively than with the traditional use of fiber or satellite links while maintaining the highest standards of video delivery performance, reliability and quality. This primer examines the challenges contributing to end-to-end latency, packet loss and jitter for video networks to give designers insights to the robust advantages of the ZiXi technology.
CORE TO THE ZiXi SOLUTION
ZiXi delivers outstanding performance (only a split-second latency), superior reliability (absolutely no packet loss) and the highest video quality (at the physical end-to-end bandwidth available and up to 1080p/60fps) all at the same time with no tradeoffs to delay, resolution and stutter. In spite of the varying and nondeterministic network conditions of the public Internet – where the amount of network errors, packet loss, jitter and out-of-order packets fluctuate “every second” – ZiXi’s proven and patented technology dynamically resolves the issues in sub-millisecond response time to deliver pristine, uninterrupted and very low latency video. With minimum overhead to physical bandwidth, this dynamic mechanism provides low end-to-end latency, removes jitter, recovers packets, smoothens video flow and regenerates video in its original form all in real-time and before it’s time to play every frame of the video. ZiXi’s superior multimedia transport technology resides at the source and destination of delivery, i.e., in ZiXi Feed™, as well as in the broadcast, distribution and communication’s highly-available network nodes, i.e., in ZiXi Cast™, in the video network. Latency is kept to a minimum with a guarantee of a maximum of 500ms over any distance. ZiXi also guarantees “zero” packet loss, even in networks that are failing at the rate of more than 30%! Finally, ZiXi ensures extremely low overhead, at the rate of 2~3%, to maximize use of the available physical bandwidth end-to-end. Other solutions, like FEC (Forward ErrorCorrection) and SVC (Scalable Video Coding), add excessive overhead (30% or more!) to the available bandwidth for video. This overhead further limits the already constrained links between nodes and uses up bandwidth that could have been used to improve video quality. Furthermore, such alternative video transport services can provide low latency but cannot guarantee recovery from packet loss due to the unpredictable behavior of the network and the statistical nature of their packet recovery mechanism. To overcome these limitations, these alternative solutions require the first and last legs of video delivery to reside in network locations that are behaving in good condition, which increase costs, reduce security and protection, and limits deployment flexibility. The ZiXi solution is superior to these alternative approaches by dynamically adjusting and consistently optimizing the end-to-end experiences of video reporting, collaboration, broadcast and distribution. Users will experience no startup delay, no buffering or pauses, no lowering of video resolution, and the ZiXi technology, with up to 256-bit AES security, may reside entirely in the customer’s premises to offer the highest levels of performance, reliability, security and quality over the public Internet. |
